Redesigning Our Apartment
Jordibenn
We recently moved into an older apartment, and while the location is perfect, the rooms don’t feel particularly welcoming. Poor lighting and an odd furniture layout are starting to bother us. Before spending money on changes, where would you suggest I learn more about how proper interior design contributes to a higher quality of life? Looking for ideas that actually make daily living easier.
Moving into an older apartment taught us that “good location” does not automatically mean comfortable living. Our hallway was dark, the sofa blocked the easiest path, and the main light felt harsh at night. I started researching how surroundings influence daily habits and found this Northwestern University  useful as a starting point. We then added warmer lamps, cleared the walkway, and moved storage closer to where we use it. The place feels calmer without a major renovation.

What surprised me most here is how little it took to change the atmosphere. We often assume a comfortable home requires a big renovation, but moving a sofa or improving the lighting can apparently make everyday routines much smoother. I’ve had similar issues with dark corners and awkward storage, so the idea of fixing function first makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing the Northwestern resource too, I’ll definitely read through it.
